CNG Adds to Multi-Media Platform. April 20, 2008

As part of its overall strategic plan for multi-media publishing, the Cumbrian Newspaper Group (CNG) in Carlisle has become the first company in the UK to sign up for the local community marketplace platform from Bluefin Technology Partners. The sale was made by Drag&Drop, Bluefin’s distributor in the UK and Ireland, and is part of an evolving partnership which has also involved Drag&Drop supplying property and motors advertising systems. With the Bluefin platform, self-service will now be extended to all types of on-line, print and web-based advertisements via CNG’s ClickIin2 Web-site.

CNG joins Bluefin’s existing customers, Black Press of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and the East Oregonian Publishing Company, publishers of Capital Press of Salem, Oregon.

All these clients have collaborated with Bluefin to accelerate the advancement of its innovative place ad and online classified publishing platform, including the extending of features to advertising call centre operations.

We are pleased to add this distinguished British newspaper publisher to our client list, said Rich Grover, Bluefin founder and general partner for technology. The response to the Bluefin platform has been very positive as the demand grows for local self service advertising solutions. We are especially delighted with the interest outside of North America, and see a tremendous opportunity to offer our solutions globally.
It has also been announced that CNG has installed the latest version of SalesWorks Multi-media (MM), the advertising booking system from IPA Systems. It will be coupled with the existing IPA CanvassWorks software.

SalesWorks MM performs multi-channel ad bookings in a single transaction whether it be for print, web, radio, eBook or any other media. In other words, the software allows advertising vehicles to be created to exploit the ever changing marketplace.
Each product within a booking can have a different sized advert or varying content including publishing date or publishing period. It is also possible to have multiple content appearing on the same day.

For content created within SalesWorks (MM), a server based rendering engine is used. Developed by Iceni Technology as part of a joint project, this enables the production of PDF files and the delivery of jpeg images to the desktop.

For example, this could be a small display ad appearing in a feature with a basic lineage ad in the classified section and multiple web ads. These could be produced in different sizes such as a banner ad for the home page with a rotator ad in the sports zone of the web site.

In addition, published products can have individual default attributes. These can include, for example, the automatic re-purposing to other publishing mediums such as Fish4 or Legacy.com. Web ads can also default to the sports, homes, business or some other page within the web site.
